Camp Smokey

Every year through a coordinated interagency collaboration the Firefighters Burn Institute, U.S Forest Service, CAL FIRE, U.S Bureau of Land Management, and U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs bring visitors of all ages a fun, educational and interactive fire safety and prevention exhibit called Camp Smokey during the California State Fair.

Guests to Camp Smokey will make their first stop at the Incident Command Post to pick up a passport that will lead them throughout all of the individual exhibits in Camp Smokey.  Each participant will learn about home fire safety, wildfire safety, responsible recreation, the history of Smokey the Bear, traditional Native American uses of fire and fire’s role in nature.  After completing and turning in the passports to the Incident Command Post each participant can earn a Limited-Edition Camp Smokey bandana!

Sparky in front of Sparky's Fire House

The Firefighters Burn Institute is honored to lead Sparky’s Fire House! In Sparky’s Fire House guests will learn the importance of working smoke alarms and what they sound like.  After, they will be taught how to create a home fire escape plan and how to safely exit their homes in case of a fire emergency.  Sparky sometimes even makes an appearance at his fire house!
