Team BRIGHT

Burn Recovery in Groups Healing Together

Team BRIGHT is a community reintegration program for burn survivors built on friendship, support, and goal-attainment, organized in collaboration between the Firefighters Burn Institute and Shriners Hospitals for Children–Northern California with help from local firefighter volunteers.

Team BRIGHT is designed to encourage community engagement after a burn injury. Firefighter volunteers and patients from Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern CA meet up on monthly coordinated recreational outings during which the firefighters can support goal attainment, help boost survivor skills, and make recovery fun. Young burn survivors in the local community are also invited to outings.

Burn survivors will have opportunities to experience the greater Sacramento area and test their new potential with peers with the knowledge that a firefighter has their back.

Team BRIGHT’s first outing in 2020 to an ice-skating rink had one participant feeling transported: “It was like a movie.”

Outing dates: Suspended due to health and safety concerns surrounding COVID-19.
